Improving the teaching and learning of mathematics in primary education in Burkina Faso. \u00a0This is the existing need that JeuCompte meets. Why respond to this need? Compared with other subjects, the situation of mathematics in primary education is the most worrying in Burkina Faso. There has been a sharp drop in results in this subject year after year. The 2009 PASEC report illustrates this by comparing the scores obtained by pupils in 1996 and 2007. This multi-year test shows that in 1996, the average mathematics score for pupils was 53 points out of 100, and that this score fell to 34 points out of 100 in 2007. This drop can be seen in the marks obtained by pupils during their school career and at the Certificat d'Etude Primaire (CEP). The difficulty with this subject lies in its teaching and learning, as the process of transmitting knowledge is very abstract. To make it a little more concrete, teachers often use objects such as sticks, pebbles or capsules, which quickly show their limitations in explaining all the mathematical concepts. JeuCompte therefore appears to be a tool that makes it easier to pass on mathematical knowledge to primary school pupils. But beyond mathematics, it is all disciplines, at all levels of the education system and even vocational training that could benefit from the advantages of serious games.<\/p>\n
